Adapted from the Eisner award-winning series of graphic novels by former My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way, The Umbrella Academy follows forty-three infants, unexpectedly born to separate and unconnected women who had not been pregnant the previous day. Each child goes on to demonstrate surprising abilities, and seven are adopted by eccentric, not to say unpleasant philanthropist Sir Reginald Hargreeves.

What is The Umbrella Academy about?
The show begins after Hargreeves’ death, when the six survivors of the group he adopted, now in their early thirties, reunite to solve the mystery surrounding the death of their adoptive father.
In the face of an apocalyptic menace, the six — Luther, Diego, Allison, Klaus, Vanya and Number Five — must struggle to overcome the divisions in their group as well as outside opposition, discover the cause of their father’s death and save the world.
The core cast of the show has been revealed by Netflix ahead of the Feb 15 drop date.
Ellen Page (X-Men: Days of Future Past) will star as lead character Vanya, who is estranged from the rest of the family because she lacks superpowers.
Game of Thrones’ Tom Hopper will play Luther/Spaceboy, while Emmy Raver-Lampman (Hamilton) will play Allison/The Rumor, who can alter reality by lying.
Diego, codenamed The Kraken, will be played by David Castaneda (El Chicano) — think of a mix of Aquaman and Batman, who can hold his breath indefinitely and is an expert at throwing knives.
Robert Sheehan, who played the selfish, amoral Nathan Young in Misfits, will play Klaus/The Seance, the group’s most morbid character. His powers only manifest when he is barefoot and include levitation, telekinesis and necromancy.
Aidan Gallagher (Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn) is set to play time-travelling Number Five/The Boy, while Sir Reginald Hargreeves, the leader of the Umbrella Academy, will be played by House of Cards’ Colm Feore.
Adam Godley (Breaking Bad’s Elliott Schwartz) will play Pogo, a genetically-engineered talking chimpanzee, while Ashley Madekwe (Revenge) plays Detective Patch.
You’ll also be able to catch Mary J. Blige as Cha-Cha, the insane time-traveling assassin first introduced in the second arc of the comic.
Where can you watch The Umbrella Academy?
The Umbrella Academy is a Netflix Original: it’s going to drop on February 15. The whole season will become available to US Netflix viewers at the same time. Like most Netflix originals, it’s accessible without geoblocking worldwide, so you should be able to watch it wherever you are.
