What is Brooklyn Nine-Nine about?
Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s comfortably dopy brand of ensemble comedy has won it enough fans to get the show picked up quickly by NBC: in fact they inked the contract the day after Fox dropped the show.
Goofy, childish but charming Detective Jake Peralta works at the Brooklyn 99th precinct, where he’s been sufficiently good at arresting criminals that his lackadaisical attitude to everything else in his personal and professional life has been allowed to slide. Until a new sheriff shows up in the form of straight-shooting, straight-talking, incidentally but definitely gay Captain Holt, a man who actually believes jaywalking is a crime.
The news comes as a less of a shock to the Nine-Nine’s other inhabitants: big-hearted, giant-trapped family man Terry, slacker Gina, ickily weird Boyle, raised-by-wolves Diaz. And after three seasons, we’re not that surprised either.
In the grand tradition of workplace comedies like Scrubs, Brooklyn Nine-Nine is set on the job, but isn’t really about the job. It’s about the sick days, lunch breaks, minor fires, screw-ups and relationships that happen in between the job. Any incidental police work that happens to take place is just there to spread the comedy of interpersonal errors and missed high-fives on.
The cast of Brooklyn Nine-Nine
Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s core cast are back, including familiar faces like Andy Samberg as Jake Peralta, Stephanie Beatriz as Rosa Diaz, the patiently massive Terry Crews as Terry Jeffords, Melissa Fumero as twitchy overachiever Amy Santiago, Joe Lo Truglio as Charles Boyle, Chelsea Peretti as Gina Linetti, and Andre Braugher as Raymond Holt — the show’s out, gay ‘straight man.’
Chelsea Perreti won’t be doing a full season as her slackly amoral Gina Linetti, annuoncing on Twitter:
Showrunner Dan Goor said, ‘I can tease that Gina departs in a very Gina Linetti-esque way. [Chelsea] is really one of the funniest people in the world and a great actress and I think all of that comes out in her exit.’

Brookly Nine-Nine is available on Netflix, as well as on Amazon Prime Video and other streaming services.
But what if this is you?
The solution you’re looking for is a VPN.
We recommend NordVPN for streaming Brooklyn Nine-Nine, whatever your location.
"A speedy VPN that's very easy to use and covers basic privacy needs well enough"
- Excellent available variety of servers
- Servers are fast and secure
- Offers six connections
Nord has excellent obfuscation, meaning it’s tough for streaming sites to tell that you’re using a VPN at all. That means it takes you back to the good old days when you never saw that ‘oops, something went wrong’ error message.
All you have to do is fire up Nord and connect to a US server, and you’re away!
